Project Homeless Connect

January 27th was a very good day.  As Portland's liquid sunshine made way for the real thing, the fourth annual Washington County Project Homeless Connect outreach program opened its doors at Sonrise Church in Hillsboro.  Project Homeless Connect is a one-stop event designed to provide a broad variety of services and hospitality directly to people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity.

Of course, as part of the CARE TO SHARE contingency, Unity of Beaverton's own Gail Key-Benson and Lesa Núñez were there to provide warm socks, hope and helpful information about the Unity of Beaverton Food Pantry and the Care to Share outreach initiative in association with the Oregon Food Bank. 

The annual one-day event provides a remarkable gathering of free resources under one roof.  Teams of volunteers provide medical services, transportation information, housing assistance, vision and dental care, haircuts, TANF, employment Information, Food Stamps, showers, hygiene items, Veterans Information, and a wealth of other critical physical, emotional and spiritual survival tools.  Unity of Beaverton is proud to be part of this local outreach program.  And we're proud of Gail and Lesa.  Thanks again!

The UoB Food Pantry Needs Your Help!

Unity of Beaverton is a Care to Share Associate provider for the Beaverton community.   And this past year our economic challenges have kept us especially busy!

Care to Share was founded in 1985 to address a growing community need.  Today our church is part of a network of providers that serve over 13,000 families each year in the metro area.  With the help of our friends at Murray Hills Christian Church, we started our food pantry a year ago and officially became a Care To Share Associate member in September, 2009.  As a part of this philanthropic family, Unity of Beaverton is entitled to USDA and Oregon  share foods.  And we accepted our first 300 pounds of food in September.

We currently feed 10 families each week…but our goal is much greater! That's why your support of the Unity of Beaverton Food Pantry is critical.  Please watch our front page news crawl for current Food Pantry needs and respond with loving gifts.

And look for upcoming fund drives such as the recent Care to Share Concert featuring our very own Michael Allen Harrison and Marvella McPartland at Nike Center.
