Unity of Beaverton Youth Ed Welcomes New Families!
The Youth Ed Team is led by Joyce Swift, Ph.D, our part-time Youth Ed Director. Unity of Beaverton Youth Ed offers a children’s ministry for kids of all ages, birth through high school. Our high school-aged group is known as the “Y.O.U.” or Youth of Unity and is supervised by our Y.O.U. trained sponsors.
Youth Ed is comprised of kids from birth through middle school and is divided into five (5) classes who are grouped by age:
Nursery, from birth through two years
UniTots, from birth to five years old, are encouraged to discover church as a good place where we are cared for and safe – that each of us shines with God’s light.
UniKids, from Kindergarten through 3rd grade, are supported in learning about the basic beliefs of Unity – that God is the one power and one presence in our lives and in the universe – that prayer is the energy that connects our awareness with God – that the Bible is a collection of stories about the spiritual path which we call sacred because we honor the guidance it can give us in understanding our lives.
UniTweens, from 4th through 5th grade, are ready for more structured and deeper understanding of Unity basics, including self responsibility and making choices in life. They also learn more about the Bible, prayer and meditation.
UniTeens, from 6th through 8th grade, delve further into self responsibility, spiritual growth and discovering the reward of service to others.
Youth of Unity (Y.O.U.), from 9th through 12th grade, explore the development of leadership for a spiritual program that encourages spiritual growth and practice, service, and social and creative expression.
The adult sponsors, as many wise ones have taught us, “learn best” the Unity principles and practices “as they teach”, and we are blessed in so many ways when we are in service to each other. Volunteers are the mainstay of the Youth Ed program. Other than our part-time Youth Ed director, the entire program is run by volunteers. There are many opportunities to serve..by helping teach a Sunday class or “behind the scenes.”
